A key witness in 2008 youth abduction case threatened
Police have commenced an investigation into a complaint lodged by a key witness in the case in to the abductions of 11 youth in 2008 allegedly by Navy personnel.
According to the complaint lodged at the Colombo Fort Police station, Lieutenant Commander Laksiri was threatened, by a group of individuals at the Navy headquarters.
The Police Media Unit said the complaint states that Chief of Defense Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne was also present at the headquarters during the time of the incident.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate Court had previously ordered the arrest of Admiral Wijegunaratne after the Criminal Investigations Department investigating the abduction of 11 youth in 2008-2009 informed Court that there is sufficient evidence against the Chief of Defense that he abetted the Chief suspect in the case to evade arrest and flee the country.
Meanwhile, Chief of Defense Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne is scheduled to appear before the CID tomorrow, pertaining to the case.
