Students of the Ruhunu University Darshana Udayanga said that the new university students are being intimidated and sexually assaulted within the university for political purposes.
He was speaking at a media briefing yesterday (30).
Speaking at a press conference, he added:
One night a group of union students came into the 114 room where I was staying in the hostel, carried me away, took my clothes off at the washroom, naked me, put me to bed, and sexually abused me. I think that’s how the inhumane sexual novel began.
As a result of this, I suffered from a variety of illnesses. My body changed. I can’t go on a bus, I will vomit. Later, I left the hostel and stayed at the home of friends. I was hospitalized due to illness.
Through the hospital police, I had to conduct an HIV test.
Later, I informed the University Grants Commission. Their final decision was to transfer me to another university. On October 1, I was assaulted by a third year student. For no reason at all.
I informed the Vice Chancellor about it. But since he did not take action, I lodged a complaint with the Matara Police. The culprits were told to come to the police twice. But they didn’t come.
I lost my mother too. The main reason was the people who ragged me. They are calling free education and trying to get us to political goals.
Why is no one taking action?
