Legal Action To Be Taken Against Book Titled, “Budunge Rasthiyaduwa”
The Minister of Higher Education and Cultural affairs, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has informed IGP Pujith Jayasundara to initiate legal action against a book titled “Budunge Rasthiyaduwa”.
It has been suggested that the book degrades Buddha and Buddhism.
The letter states that members of the Buddhist community are gravely disappointed and in disarray due to the publication of this book.
The Minister added that the author, publisher, distributor and retailer have committed an offence which is punishable according to the penal code.
The Minister further informed the IGP to take legal action by conducting an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the Buddhist Information Centre filed a complaint against former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday.
The complaint was with regards to a drama series impertinent to Buddhism which has been created by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, in which she is the chairperson.
