A special program has been launched to release the containers that have landed at the Colombo Port.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Daya Ratnayake, said that about 26,000 containers have already been piled up in the yard.
Importers, Customs Officers and Bank Branch Managers had a discussion on the immediate steps to be taken to release them, he said.
Accordingly, the bank has decided to increase the opening period of the bank from tomorrow for the payment of clearance activities.
Customs have also agreed to increase the number of containers that are being cleared, he added.
