United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila says the government is deceiving the public by artificially generating state income.
Speaking in Parliament during the debate the Parliamentarian questioned the governments means of generating an income.
The Parliamentarian noted the government that has been claiming of a debt burden for the past four years has increased the debt burden further through the Budget adding the government has artificially manipulated to increase the government’s income, to show a reduced budget deficit and loans obtained.
MP Gammanpila stressed in 2017 the government generated an income of Rs.1,932 billion and an income of Rs.2,025 billion in 2018 claiming however it has increased 22% to Rs.2,464 billion this year.
Responding State Minister Niroshan Perera said the Opposition is levelling various accusations owing to their impending defeat at upcoming elections.
The State Minister stated the government had to pay debt thanks to the Hambantota Port and the Mattala Airport.
State Minister Perera said the government has to pay 5.9 billion US dollars in debt and therefore the budget was presented by keeping that reality in mind.
JVP MP Nalinda Jayatissa joining the debate charged that charges of several state services has been increased and termed the 2019 Budget, Mangala’s fantasy.
The Parliamentarian noted accordingly fantasies have been created for the youth, for artists, students sitting the Advance Level Examination and for expatriate’s who are currently overseas.
MP Jayatissa added however only a series of loans is what has been put forth as Mangala’s fantasy.
Minister Thalatha Athukorala said the 2019 Budget has granted concessions from farmers to entrepreneurs alike.
The Minister said opinions and views of all were considered when compiling proposals for the Budget.
Minister Athukorala claimed the budget has also focused on removing income anomalies and increase state sector salaries.
The Minister stressed an area that was not addressed before soldiers, were also considered in this Budget.
