Death row list led by 5 Pakistanis- President
President Maithripala Sirisena says the list of inmates on death row for drug racketeering is led by five Pakistan nationals.
Speaking during an event in Kandy the President said discussions are currently underway to handover the inmates to the Pakistan government.
The Head of State noted individuals who are arrested on charges of possession and dealing various narcotics will not be subject to any legal concessions adding the highest punishment including the capital punishment will be strictly enforced against such persons.
The Head of State on a separate note added 88% of land that was under the military in conflict affected areas has now been vested back with original owners.
The President said steps are underway to release the remaining 12% of land adding the government is of the stance that the public should have the right to own their land.
President Sirisena reiterated any land occupied by a third party, regardless of its location, should be granted to its owners.
