Dinesh Chandimal out of Asia Cup
Sri Lanka Test captain, Dinesh Chandimal has been ruled out of the Asia Cup which is scheduled to be held in U.A.E this month, Sri Lanka Cricket team’s manager Charith Senanayake confirmed.
Dinesh Chandimal who sustained a hairline fracture on the middle finger of his right hand while attempting a catch during a SLC T20 League match, missed the final of the league which featured the team led by him, ‘Team Colombo’ on the 2nd of September. He was also not to be seen during the Sri Lankan squad’s practice session last Friday.
With Niroshan Dickwella, who kept wickets in Sri Lanka’s most recent ODI series, being dropped from Sri Lanka’s 16-man squad for the Asia Cup, Dinesh Chandimal was tipped to don the keeping-gloves for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. Now with Chandimal being sidelined Niroshan Dickwella, who was named among the 5 standbys, has been recalled.
Strike bowler and main spinner Akila Dananjaya too pulled out of the first leg of the tournament with his wife expected to give birth to their first child.
