Alia Bhatt’s latest venture Raazi is enjoying a good run at the box office. The movie has garnered Rs 110.89 in total, over the three weeks. It earned Rs 1.05 crore at the box office, last Friday, starting its fourth week on a good note. Directed by Meghna Gulzar and backed by Dharma Productions, Raazi is based on Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat. Alia plays an Indian spy married to a Pakistani military officer.
While Raazi remained unaffected with the release of movies like Parmanu and Deadpool, the second women-centric movie of the year, Veere Di Wedding has released this week. The movie has already beaten Raazi with its opening day figures. Though, unlike Raazi’s unanimous positive reviews, VDW is getting mixed reactions. Let us see how the movie fares in the coming days.
Considering that the movie has a niche subject and has released in only 2000 screens, Raazi has performed very well. In fact, it is also the first niche, women-centric film to earn such a huge amount of money. So quite clearly, Raazi is a winner at the box office. All this has been possible courtesy of the fantastic storyline, stellar performances, and exceptional execution. People loved the movie and this gave rise to a fantastic word of mouth publicity, which in turn helped it rake in such a huge amount of money.
BollywoodLife’s Ankita Chaurasia wrote in her review,
“Alia Bhatt is the soul of Raazi and there are no two ways about it. Her turn from an innocent, naive student to a seasoned, ruthless spy is the stuff legends are made of. She has her hand on the pulse of the audience and holds them by the throat as she takes one risk after the other. You find yourself holding your breath and heaving a sigh of relief, along with Sehmat. By the time the film ends, you want to do three things – hold Sehmat close and assure her that everything will be all right, remind yourself that Sehmat is only Alia Bhatt, handover the best actress award of the year to her already.”
