Today is the 72nd National Independence Day
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa inaugurated the 72nd National Independence Day at the Independence Square in Colombo this morning.
The salute of the Armed Forces, Police, Special Task Force and Civil Defense Force has commenced.
The salute parade was attended by 3,376 Army, 799 Navy and 847 Air Force personnel.
A total of 596 police officers, 327 STF personnel and 385 Civil Defense Force personnel were present.
Meanwhile, the Navy has taken steps to hold a series of ‘Ratawata Bendi Ranveta’ shows at the Galle Face Green in view of the 72nd Independence Day celebrations held under the theme of “A Secured Nation – A Prosperous Country”.
According to the Navy, there will be a number of demonstrations by the Navy’s high-tech deep sea observation vessels, sailing boats, Angampora demonstrations and sailors off the coast of Galle.
Sri Lanka Air Force celebrated the National Independence Day celebrations today with a fleet of 30 aircraft.
