‘Govt. will execute a balanced development’
Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera says a balanced development programme that will equally benefit those residing in rural areas will be executed across the country.
Speaking during an event in Matara Minister Samaraweera said the government will implement its development plan identifying the needs of the public rather than focusing on a single district.
The Minister noted the previous regime built roads, theatres and a cricket stadium claiming to be better than those is the United States with the aim of developing one district.
Minister Samaraweera stressed even though roads were built with millions of rupees there are 153,000 families in the Hambantota district without homes.
The Finance Minister noted the development projects carried out by the previous regime were conflicting.
Minister Samaraweera added the government will not disregard those in grass root levels while initiating large scale development programmes.
The Finance Minister meanwhile said funds allocated for rural development through the Gamperaliya Development programme has been increased to Rs.300 million for each electorate.
Minister Samaraweera noted relevant directives were also issued notifying the manner in which funds should be allocated.
The Minister stressed more than 1,000 schools with lesser facilities exist adding funds have been allocated to provide sanitary facilities to all schools in 2019.
