‘MS asked to be UNP’s common candidate many times’
The United National Party says President Maithripala Sirisena had requested to be fielded as the UNP’s common candidate for the upcoming Presidential election on several occasions.
However Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra said party officials had not agreed to the President’s request.
Speaking at a media briefing at Temple Trees last night the MP charged the President acted on changing Prime Minister’s due to his requests being denied.
MP Premachandra noted since the UNP rejected the request of the President his next option was the Mahinda Rajapaksa faction.
She stressed as the faction agreed to appoint Maithripala Sirisena as the Presidential Candidate he created an alliance with them instead.
The Parliamentarian said if the President claim he cannot work with Ranil Wickremesinghe it is 100% impossible to work with Mahinda Rajapaksa.
