Adverse Weather : 12 districts affected – Disaster Management Centre

Heavy showers and strong winds continue to batter the island with residents of twelve districts affected by adverse weather conditions.

According to the Disaster Management Centre,

# Anuradhapura,
# Mullaitivu,
# Trincomalee,
# Kandy,
# Nuwara-Eliya,
# Badulla,
# Kegalle,
# Ratnapura,
# Galle,
# Kalutara,
# Kurunegela and
# Puttalam

districts have been severely affected owing to the South-West monsoon conditions over the country.

Five deaths have been reported thus far and according to the Disaster Management Centre three individuals are reported missing in disaster-hit areas.

A total of 13,314 persons from 3,438 families have been affected owing to the bad weather.

The Galle District has been the hardest hit as a result of the monsoon weather with 1,960 families affected.

The Disaster Management Centre added 285 affected families have been placed at temporary shelters.
