The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) has commenced an investigation into the phone calls made by MP Ranjan Ramanayake with several other persons.
A senior official said that CDs and audio recordings circulated on social media as well as media were being investigated by MP Ranjan Ramanayake.
The Criminal Investigation Department of the Colombo Crimes Division stated that the reports of the service providers regarding telephone calls will be recalled. Investigations are being carried out on the instructions of the acting IGP.
Meanwhile, the United National Party (UNP) stated that a special inquiry is underway to find out whether MP Ranjan Ramanayake has committed any act in violation of discipline. UNP general secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that after the inquiry, necessary action would be taken.
