Police will launch an island-wide operation to nab drink-drivers from today.
Police Media Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekera said a major security and traffic operation will be in place from today until the 22nd of April.
SP Gunasekara said Police stations have necessary breathalyzer equipment required to test individuals alcohol levels, claiming 25,000 additional breathalyzers have been imported, while measures have been taken to distribute them to Police Stations within the day.
Over 2,400 police personnel will also be deployed to ensure security in and around Colombo during the festive season.
Speaking during a media briefing held at the Police Headquarters in Colombo, Police Media Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekera noted 1,600 Policemen have been deployed in Colombo and its suburbs in order to control traffic flow, while 800 officers have been deployed to oversee security within the Colombo city.
