The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna says certain factions are attempting to spread false information regarding former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s visit to India.
Chairman of the party Professor GL Peiris said official discussions were not held regarding the presidential candidate who the Joint Opposition will field.
He charged that at a time that the public is faced with many burning issues the government has attempted to deviate public attention to an irrelevant topic.
The Podujana Peramuna Chairman added the rupee that is Rs.164.04 in comparison to the dollar will increase to Rs.170 when the 2019 Budget is tabled in Parliament in November.
GL Peries noted in an attempt to cover up such a matter the government is talking of the Former President’s visit to India claiming Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is of the stance that a suitable individual will be selected at the appropriate time for the Presidential Election.
Professor Peries also noted that the meeting between Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not focus on politics.
