Ginigathena Shooting: Two police constables of SB Dissanayake’s security detail arrested
Two police constables of SB Dissanayake’s security detail have been arrested in connection with the shooting which took place last night in Polpitiya, Ginigathhena.
Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the two suspects were also taken into custody.
Two people were injured in the shooting which took place around 8.30 pm. They are being treated at Karawanella and Ginigathena hospitals.
Police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said that the shooting had taken place following a dispute that had taken place over an incident that had blocked MP SB Dissanayake’s vehicle.
Police suspect that there were three shots fired. It was with the discovery of three empty ammunition shells.
The two police constables are to be produced before the Hatton Magistrate’s Court today for an identification parade, the police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says he regrets the shooting that was carried out by the bodyguards of former minister SB Dissanayake.
Releasing a Twitter message, he said that if the incident were true, the relevant authorities would take immediate action.

In a tweet, Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that he was reaffirming his policy of keeping law and order a priority.
