The largest number of candidates in the presidential election history have deposited this time.
A total of 41 candidates have placed their deposits during the period of deposit which ended at 12 noon. Among them is a monk and a woman. Eight candidates have placed their cash deposits today.
Accordingly, 19 major political parties, 3 other political parties and 19 independent parties have placed their deposits.
Nominations will be accepted tomorrow from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. That was at the Election Secretariat, Rajagiriya. Objections can be submitted from 11 am to 12 pm.
President of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said that due to the increase in candidates, the presidential election could cost more than one billion rupees.
The estimated amount for the presidential election is Rs.400 million. More than 1,600 police officers will be deployed for election services. President of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said that he urged all parties not to engage in illegal activities.
