Revised fees for NICs to come into effect today
The revised fees obtained for the registration and issuance of National Identity Cards will come into effect as of today.
The Department of Registration of Persons announced that the revised charge for obtaining an NIC for the first time upon turning 15 years of age will be 100 rupees, an amended duplicate NIC will be charged 250 rupees and a duplicate for a lost NIC will be 500 rupees.
The Department said the receipt, obtained from the Divisional Secretariat of the Grama Niladhari Office, after paying the fee, should be affixed for the relevant purpose on the application and forwarded to the Department of Registration of Persons.
The statement by the Department said if an individual is unable to pay the charges due to unavoidable circumstances; a certificate for exemption obtained from the Divisional Secretary should be attached along with the application.
