OMP says it has no list of missing persons
The Office on Missing Persons has rejected allegations that it has a list of missing persons during the final stages of the conflict.
Issuing a statement, Chairman of the OMP President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris said a statement made by him in Mullaitivu was incorrectly interpreted by the media.
The OMP Chairman clarified that what he did say is that the issue of those who surrendered and are alleged to have disappeared is high on the list of the OMP’s priorities.
He added a request was made to the OMP by the families to obtain the lists of surrendees from authorities.
OMP Chairman Saliya Pieirs said he requested the families to make the request in writing to the OMP and assured the families that the OMP will immediately follow up the same with the authorities.
