NPC to investigate Tambuttegama unrest
The National Police Commission has decided to launch an investigation pertaining to the recent unrest opposite the Tambuttegama Police station.
When inquired by NewsRadio Secretary of NPC Ariyadasa Cooray said the commission has requested a comprehensive report from the Inspector General of Police regarding the matter.
The Secretary further noted an inquiry will be carried out regarding the manner in which the Police handled the situation.
A group of farmers held a demonstration yesterday charging the government is attempting to grant permission to a multinational company to produce bottled drinking water, by using the Rajanganaya reservoir.
Police fired tear gas and water to disperse the group.
Police stated 59 persons including five females had been arrested following the unrest for clashing with Police.
Meanwhile 57 out of the 59 persons arrested during the unrest yesterday, have been remanded until the 5th of March.
