OIC express concern over Ampara unrest
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has expressed concern over reports of clashes and a tense situation in Ampara recently.
While expressing concern over the issue, the OIC stressed the need to protect the rights of minorities, and their rights to observe their religious practices without harassment or any direct or indirect breaches and to earn their livelihoods and conduct their business under full protection of the law.
In this context, the OIC Secretary General called on the Government to proceed expeditiously with an investigation of the alleged abuses and to ensure the safety and security of minorities, in accordance with all relevant international human rights conventions and instruments.
Police are investigating the incident in which several stores in Ampara were attacked on Tuesday.
The Police Media Unit said around four stores were attacked during the night.
