Petition on MR’s Quo Warranto to be heard
The Supreme Court will today hear the Petition filed against the interim injunction issued by the Court of Appeal challenging the authority of Mahinda Rajapaksa to hold office as Prime Minister and 48 Parliamentarians to hold Ministerial portfolios.
Court correspondent said the order was issued when the petition was taken up for hearing on Wednesday.
Meanwhile a motion was tabled at the Supreme Court, calling for the petition to be heard before a five member bench.
Lawyers representing the leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe filed the motion yesterday.
The petition was filed, challenging the legitimacy of Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Cabinet, following the approval of two No-Confidence Motions against the purported government in Parliament.
The Appeals Court announced that the Quo Warranto writ petition filed by 122 MPs, challenging the authority of Mahinda Rajapaksa to hold office as Prime Minister and 48 MP to hold Ministerial portfolios will be taken up for hearing once again before Court on the 16th, 17th and 18th of January 2019.
