PRECIFAC Recommends Action Against Mr & Gotabhaya
The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges has recommended that legal action must be filed against Former President Kurunegala District Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa and Former Secretary of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Accordingly the final report submitted by the PRECIFAC has recommended filing indictments on charges of corruption, conspiracy to execute corruption and supporting corruption under article 70 of the Bribery Act.
The Former President and four other individuals are charged of carrying out election campaigning activities through ITN, incurring a loss of over 100 million rupees during the previous Presidential Election.
The final report of the PRECIFAC states, politicians proved to have engaged in corruption are unsuitable to be elected as a public representative even after seven years.
Furthermore the Commission of Inquiry has also recommended filing legal action against Gotabhaya Rajapaksa over the Rakna Arakshaka Lanka and Avant-Garde cases.
The PRECIFAC further recommended legal action over financial charges against former Ministers of the previous government’s tenure Basil Rajapaksa, Wimal Weerawansa, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Sarath Kumara Gunaratne, Priyankara Jayaratne, Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Jagath Pushpakumara.
The Commission has also recommended action to be taken against Former Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, Former Mayor of the Dehiwela Municipality Danasiri Amaratunge, Provincial Councillor Upali Kodikara and Former Navy Commanders Jayanath Colambage and Jayantha Perera.
The final report pertaining to the 34 relevant investigations into serious financial crimes, said to have taken place during the tenure of the previous government, has also been uploaded to the internet.
