The Department of Meteorology predicts the prevailing rainy condition in the south-western part of the island will continue throughout the day.
Issuing a statement the department said fairly strong gusty winds about 50kmph can also be expected over the island.
The Department noted showers may occur at times in Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces.
Showers are expected elsewhere particularly after 2.00 p.m.
The Department said heavy falls above 100mm can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Western, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
The Department urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
Meanwhile the Disaster Management Centre said 138,000 persons continue to be affected as a result of the inclement weather being experienced in various parts of the island.
Furthermore 17 deaths have been reported thus far owing to the inclement weather while one person remains missing in the Gampaha District.
Meanwhile Police said search operations to rescue the Police Officer who was reported missing after being swept away by a strong tide in Galawala continue to be in place.
