The Elections Commission says the release of results of the 2018 Local Authority Election will be delayed considerably.
Issuing a statement the Chairman of Elections Mahinda Deshapriya said counting has been completed.
The Commission said the Returning Officers have been vested with the responsibility of assessing the results in comparison to the results received by Returning Officers via fax and phone.
The Commission said despite the postal votes being included in the overall count of Local Government bodies, in several bodies the postal votes have not been handed over to the Returning Officer for the final tally.
Therefore the Returning Officers have been vested with the responsibility of verifying the results once again.
Deshapriya noted the results cannot be released to media until Returning Officers enter the necessary data.
The Elections Commission accordingly urged the public to await the election results of the Local Authority Election.
