Minister Sagala Rathnayake says he received 13 separate intelligence reports on Islamic State group’s activities, during his term as the Minister of Law and Order.
Testifying before the Parliament Select Committee probing the Easter Sunday Bombings, former Minister of Law and Order Rathnayake noted that he also received information regarding IS affiliates of Indian region residing in Sri Lanka.
Minister Rathnayake revealed that he first received information regarding the National Thowheed Jama’ath and its leader Zahran Hashim on the 2nd of November 2016.
The Minister said through the appointed of a new defence unit, investigations were launched on groups that promoted extremist ideologies.
Minister Sagala Rathnayake added the Attorney General was also notified of the activities of fundamentalists during his term as the Law and Order Minister.
