The second phase of the Suwa Sariya Ambulance service will be launched in Jaffna today under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to address the inauguration ceremony via video conference that will take place at the Jaffna Municipal Council grounds.
The Indian government has reportedly granted $15.02 million towards the second phase of the Suwa Sariya Ambulance service project.
Accordingly the government has planned to acquire more than 209 ambulances for the second phase of the project.
Meanwhile 1,782 local employees are expected to be recruited for the service.
The first phase of the Suwa Sariya Ambulance service was launched in six districts in the Western and Southern provinces.
