Maithri – Mahinda showdown today?
President Maithripala Sirisena claims he will take future political decisions for the best interest of the country and not in any way will be influenced by any person, group or a party.
President Sirisena in a statement said he is looking forward to the Constitutional interpretation of the Supreme Court and his decisions will be taken accordingly.
The Supreme Court is slated to announce the verdict on the fundamental rights petitions filed against the parliament dissolution gazette issued by President Maithripala Sirisena last month.
The Seven-member bench has issued an interim injunction on the Gazette issued by the President until the pronouncement of the verdict on the FRs.
Meanwhile, a decisive discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to be held today.
Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara said all leaders of the constituent parties of the United People’s Freedom Alliance will also attend the meeting.
The present political situation, developments and the impending court rulings will be discussed at length during the meeting.
The Parliamentarian noted continuous discussions were held over matters concerning the forthcoming court verdicts and the impact of it on the country.
