Opposition Leader to meet MS tomorrow
A special discussion will be held between the Leader of the Opposition R. Sampanthan and President Maithripala Sirisena tomorrow.
According to the Tamil National Alliance, President Sirisena has invited Opposition Leader Sampanthan and members of the TNA for a round of discussions pertaining to the present political crisis in the country.
The meeting is slated to be held at 5pm tomorrow.
The TNA, along with constituent parties of the United National Front, the JVP and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress have continuously opposed President Sirisena’s appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister last month.
According to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, two No-Confidence Motions against Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government have been passed in parliament this week.
The TNA members of parliament have also submitted affidavits opposing the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the premier.
However President Maithripala Sirisena continues to reject the motions passed in parliament, citing procedural shortcomings.
