Committee to decide unity govt’s future

A special committee is due to be appointed, in order to submit proposals pertaining to the future of the national unity government, amidst the prevailing political climate.

The proposal to appoint a committee in this regard was decided on, at a special discussion held last night between United National Party Cabinet Ministers and President Maithripala Sirisena.

The UNP has also decided to meet Sri Lanka Freedom Party Ministers following the conclusion of a Cabinet Meeting scheduled to be held today, to discuss the present political state immediately following the 2018 Local Authority Election.

The BBC Sinhala Service reported the decision was reached during a meeting held between UNP Cabinet Ministers and the President and Prime Minister last night.

The Committee is due to be appointed following the discussion with SLFP Ministers scheduled for today.

President Maithripala Sirisena has yesterday stated that a final decision pertaining to the governments future course of action must be reached within the day.

The BBC Sinhala Service further reported Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake was also present at the meeting upon a special invitation extended by both the President and the Prime Minister.

Deputy Minister Ramanayake had stated that both government parties must bear responsibility for the results of the Local Authority Election.

The Deputy Minister stressed the government must strengthen the mandate of good governance instead of hurling allegations at any single party.
