Don’t forget bond transactions during UPFA govt -MS
President Maithripala Sirisena says groups levelling allegations pertaining to the controversial 2015 bond transactions should also remember the bond transactions during the tenure of the Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa led government between 2008-2015.
Speaking at a United People’s Freedom Alliance rally in Polonnaruwa the President said investigations will be launched to the bond transactions before 2015 in the same manner the perpetrators of the 2015 bond scam were identified.
The Head of State said he appointed a Commission to investigate incidents that were reported from 2015 adding however the Commission did not have a mandate to investigate malpractices reported from 2008.
President Sirisena stated during the investigation, the judges and the commissioner had discovered mass-scale corruption including the misuse of EPF funds from 2008.
The President added those involved in malpractices had been cited in the reports compiled by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges.
President Maithripala Sirisena said his presidential election manifesto contained an anticorruption programme adding therefore he appointed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges.
