Govt attempting to abolish MR’s Civic Rights – Udaya
Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila says the government is attempting to remove Former President Kurunegala District Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa from election campaigns by abolishing the former President’s Civic Rights.
Speaking at a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna rally the Parliamentarian said such action will not be allowed.
The Parliamentarian noted he had read the reports compiled by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges adding the reports had not mentioned anything about stripping the civic rights of Former President Mahinda Rajapaksha.
MP Gammanpila stressed the commission had no powers to issue such recommendations adding only a special Presidential Commission can issue such recommendations and not an investigative commission.
He noted MP Mahinda Rajapaksha continues to receive the support of the general public and therefore he continues to be a threat for his political opponents.
