Minister Daya Gamage says a comprehensive program will be launched to create highly paid local jobs in a bid to discourage women from leaving overseas for employment.
Minister Daya Gamage said the government is also focused on establishing 5,000 export product based villages in the country.
He noted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe during his term as the Minister of Industry and Vocational Training, managed to bring in large scale investments, adding many investors arrived in the country and started manufacturing plants.
He said the country exported goods through a skilled work force, however remarked during the previous government’s term, it sent enormous numbers of women overseas.
The Minister claimed this created several social issues, as when a mother leaves her house, the children are neglected and go astray.
He stressed the issue must be rectified.
Furthermore the Minister noted the government hopes to launch 5,000 export-produce based villages, through which they expect to empower rural villagers.
