MS must adhere to the Constitution – JVP leader
Leader of the JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake says the President should adhere to the Constitution.
The JVP Leader speaking in Parliament during the debate on the motion for the expenditure heads of the Office of the Prime Minister to be suspended, said the President must act in accordance with the Constitution, however stressed the cause of entire crisis came about due to completely ignoring and dismissing the Constitution and caring only for the Presidents own selfish, corrupt desires.
He noted the President must understand that he can only act within the limits of his authority.
Dissanayake also stated the President has no right to question the length or breadth of a No-Confidence Motion, or what it contains, adding the Head of State must fall in line with the Constitution.
He however commented that if the President himself is acting against the Constitution, how can we expect to tell the general public to obey the law?
He noted if the citizens of this country break civil laws tomorrow, what right does the President have to tell them otherwise, if the President himself is flouting basic law?
He remarked for what reason then should the public respect the law either?
