‘Prove majority through a Confidence Motion’

The JVP has challenged the Mahinda Rajapaksa faction to pass a Confidence Motion in Parliament in support of the present administration.

Parliamentarian Bimal Rathnayake said if Mahinda Rajapaksa is hesitant to face a No-Confidence Motion, he should at least present a resolution in support of his purported government.

An adjournment debate was held in parliament yesterday pertaining to detrimental effects on the tourism industry due to the present political crisis.

MP Rathnayake said by demonstrating its majority the Rajapaksa administration can bring in much needed stability to the country.

The Parliamentarian noted the UNP should be held responsible for the decisions it took against the country adding however after receiving a mandate from the public, a government cannot be removed in this manner and President Maithripala Sirisena did not receive a mandate to remove a government in this manner.

He stressed therefore the JVP will facilitate the suspension of standing orders in parliament and the Mahinda Rajapaksa faction can pass a resolution in favour of the purported government.

MP Rathnayake said the Sirisena-Rajapaksa faction is continuing the illegal move with the backing of a dark media mafia built during the past 20 to 40 years.

MP Bimal Rathnayake added by holding on to governing power without a majority in Parliament, Maithripala Sirisena and Mahinda Rajapaksa have set a wrong precedence.

He noted it is evident that the Rajapaksa-Sirisena faction does not have the backing of 113 members in parliament claiming the faction remaining in power is a blatant violation of the country’s law.

The Parliamentarian stressed the conspiracy has been defeated in parliament and even before the judiciary although only partially.
