The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have decided to contest the forthcoming elections under the name of the “Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandanaya” alliance.
Former President Maithripala Sirisena has been appointed as the leader of the party and former President Maithripala Sirisena has been appointed as its Chairman, said Sagara Kariyawasam, Secretary of the SLPP.
The General Secretary of the SLPP said that the documents were handed over today to register the new alliance with the Election Commission.
Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa has been appointed as the General Secretary of the alliance while Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has been appointed as Deputy Chairman.
Minister of State Dayasiri Jayasekara and National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa have been named as national organizers of the alliance.
Meanwhile, Udaya Gammanpila has been appointed as the deputy secretary of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandanaya while Vasudeva Nanayakkara and DEW Gunasekara have been appointed as Vice Presidents.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has been named as the Deputy Secretary of the new alliance.
The General Secretary of the SLFP added that the logo of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandanaya is the sign of the ‘Flower Bud’ (Pohottuwa).
