17 political parties including the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) signed an agreement to form a new alliance today.
Participating in the signing of the agreement, SLPP presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said they would contest the next all elections under the new alliance called the Sri Lanka Freedom People’s Alliance.
The signing ceremony of the Sri Lanka Freedom People’s Alliance (SLFPA) organized by 17 parties including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna took place today at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
It was presided by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
Allied party leaders signed the agreement, which was later handed over to party secretaries.
The party leaders and others also pledged their support for the forthcoming election.
Addressing the gathering, Presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said this was the largest alliance in Sri Lanka.
He said that although there are 17 parties, all of them are united for one common purpose – the parties that love the motherland.
He also said that after the victory, he expects the cooperation of all parties to achieve the aspirations of all the people within his tenure.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the support of the Parliament as well as the Pradeshiya Sabhas and Provincial Councils is very important.
