Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the country cannot be developed by a dictatorship, but it is necessary to work with dedication to develop the country.
Mr. Wickremesinghe pointed out that there was no need for a dictatorship or a semi-dictatorship to carry out the massive development that had been carried out in the last few years.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe made this statements at a ceremony to hand over appointment letters to 5000 Samurdhi Development Officers at Temple Trees today (15).
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also handed over pension letters to Samurdhi Development Officers who retired.
Speaking further Mr. Wickremesinghe said,
“In the last few years we have made the biggest investment ever made in the country since independence. There was no need for a dictator to carry out such a task. Dictatorial powers are not necessary. Never before has there been such a development as claiming to obtain dictatorial or semi-dictatorial powers.
I would like to mention that this work was done through the strengthening of democracy. When we came to power, there was no strong democracy in the country, but now democracy has been strengthened.
The media has been given the freedom to criticize us. Instead of a white van, the ambulance arrives at your doorstep immediately after calling. We have made such a transformation. ”
