United National Party backbenchers have raised strong objections over President Maithripala Sirisena’s move to accompany him a group of Parliamentarians representing the Opposition, during recent visits to Singapore and the Philippines.
Terming the process as illegal, MP Thushara Indunil Amarasena said the President has misused public funds by the move.
Several MPs from the Opposition were seen with the President during his official tour to the Philippines and Singapore.
Thushara Indunil Amarasena said the opposition members have not supported the initiatives taken by the government.
He said the President continues to work against the UNP adding the Head of State was humiliated after he opted appoint an opposition group to the government.
MP Amarasena added President Sirisena is undermining the credibility of the country by taking opposition MPs to discuss government initiatives with foreign governments.
He said the President must work for the well-being of the country and urged to put an end to the party politics.
