1500 athletes participating
Over 1500 athletes are taking part at the 18th International Schools Athletics Championships 2018 and a total of 23 International Schools are participating in the event featuring 106 events for girls and boys.
The ISAC event got off to a start at the Diyagama Sports Stadium with Kenari Gamage of Lyceum International School Wattala winning a Gold medal in a time of 15.71 sec in the U-14 Girl’s 80M Hurdles with Matheeshi Wettasinghe of Lyceum Panadura in second place with 15.82 s and Anjalika Madushani from Lyceum Ratnapura coming third in 15.95 s. The meet will be continued today and the closing follows the day after.
The U-14 Boy’s Hurdles were also dominated by the Lyceum International, Sanidu Vivan from Wattala won in a time of 13.07 secs while Kashmira Punchihewa also from Wattala came second in 13.31 secs and Sadesh Fonseka from Panadura was third in 13.77secs.
The official opening ceremony will take place today and some of the heats were worked off yesterday, while the finals in the Hurdles events in the Under-14 category taking place concurrently.
