The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned international cricket for one year, claiming that the bowling action of Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya is illegal.
The ban will be effective until August 29, 2020.
In a Test match against New Zealand at the Galle International Cricket Stadium last month, Akila was informed by the ICC that his bowling action was illegal.
The International Cricket Council informed Sri Lanka Cricket this afternoon that Akila’s bowling stance has been proven illegal, resulting in a test of bowling bowling stance in Chennai, India.
Akila returned to international cricket earlier this year after he was first accused of bowling in a Test match against England in November last year in Galle after adjusting the bowling action .
Akila, who is still 25 years old, has taken 33 wickets in six Tests, 51 wickets in 36 ODIs and 22 wickets in 22 T20 Internationals.
