A senior official of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has said that an investigation is underway regarding the head coach of the Sri Lanka national cricket team, Chandika Hathurusinghe.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has suspended Hathurusinghe following the failure of the World Cup in England last July. The SLC then filed a charge sheet against Hathurusinghe, which Hathurusinghe had answered within 14 days.
SLC is also expected to appoint a committee comprising a retired judge to investigate Hathurusinghe.
After the dismissal of Hathurusinghe, fast bowling coach Rumesh Ratnayake served as the temporary head coach of the national team in several tours.
Although Hathurusinghe was temporarily dismissed from the national team, SLC has paid him a monthly salary of nearly Rs. 8 million by the since August last year.
According to the agreement between Hathurusinghe and Sri Lanka Cricket, if the SLC terminates its contract unilaterally, the coach has to pay less than one year’s salary or the salary for the remainder of the contract.
The agreement between Hathurusinghe and Sri Lanka Cricket is due to expire on December 31, 2020. Accordingly, Hathurusinghe will have to pay a sum of Rs 10 million if SLC cancels the previous agreement.
