The Sri Lanka Army’s Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Regiment, together with the Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club, will host the ninth annual ‘Walawa Supercross’ motorcycle and motorcycle race at the Sevanagala Army Runway near the Udawalawe National Park on the 22nd of this month from 9.00 am.
The event consists of 23 motor events and 12 motorcycle events. Nearly 200 competitors, including some of the country’s leading motorcycle drivers and riders, will take part in the event.
In the SLGT category (up to 3500 cylinder capacity), the best player in the motor event is the best driver in the competition.
In the MX category (from 125 to 250 cylinders), the Most Outstanding Athlete in the Motorcycle category is also named the best rider.
In addition, the organizers are planning to present a special trophy titled “Ananda Wedisingha Memorial Trophy” to the best athlete in the Super Moto Ride event in the SM category.
Ashan Silva was adjudged the Most Outstanding Driver at the Walawa Supercross for the year 2010 and Yvonne B. Sullivan for his outstanding performance. Gurusinghe won the best motorcycle rider of the year.
Causeway Paints is the main sponsor of the event while CEAT, Hutch, Ashok Leyland, Honda and Aliya Soft Drinks are co-sponsors.
