Refrain from organizing rallies – PAFFREL

The People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections has requested all parties to refrain from organizing marches and rallies during the next few days.

Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said they had received complaints regarding several marches being organized by parties that secured victories.

Hettiarachchi requested all groups to celebrate the victory in a peaceful manner.

The Executive Director stressed rallies lead to problematic situations and requested district leaders and Pradeshiya Sabha leaders to refrain from organising public gatherings.

Rohana Hettiarachchi also said 26 complaints have been reported during the post election period.

He stated several incidents of assault were reported from Kegalle, Badulla, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala, Kandy, Matara and Ampara adding so far 7 people have been admitted to hospital.
