Vehicles imports must reduce – Vasudeva
United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Vasudeva Nanayakkara says a decision must be reached in future pertaining to restricting the importation of vehicles with low engine capacities.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today he said the importation of vehicles with higher engine capacities can be discouraged with the imposition of taxes.
MP Nanayakkara claimed they cannot exhaust funds in the government reserves claiming it also affects the value of the rupee.
He stated the importation of vehicles reduced drastically last month in comparison to the previous month.
MP Nanayakkara said a vote on account will be presented in Parliament with the intention of passing it with a majority in Parliament.
The MP noted the vote on account will be tabled in Parliament after the verdict on the petitions against the dissolution of Parliament is delivered.
MP Nanayakkara said the vote on account must be approved with a majority in Parliament claiming if the amounts cited in the vote on account affects MPs then, they will vote in favour of it.
The vote on account he said, will only include expenditure of the state for an interim period.
